It was wonderful to have so many parents attending the Open House Tuesday night. Thank-you for coming and for being so attentive.
We did not have a chance to talk about "Battle of the Books". Each child has a section in his/her binder for "Battle of the Books" (BoB). You will find a list of books, copies of Memory Joggers and Question sheets as well as directions and examples.
At this time we just have to read, read, read, and complete the Memory Jogger and Question sheet for each book. It is best to do the papers during or immediately after reading each book. Our class "battles" won't begin until December at the earliest. That will give each child ample time to have at least 4 of the books read.
They are able to check-out battle books from our own classroom library at any time. The minutes they spend reading may be put on their monthly reading log which may be found in the red homework folder.
Fifth graders have the opportunity and responsibility to serve on Safety Patrol or Color Guard. Each child in our classroom now holds one of these positions. Please speak with your child about his/her job and encourage the respect and responsibility that is needed to perform these jobs.
Mrs. Stigall and Mrs. Slausson direct the Due West Safety Patrol.
Mrs. Dewberry, our secretary, directs the Color Guard.
We have open house this Tuesday, 7:00 - 8:30pm. at the school.
There will be a brief, closed circuit PTA meeting , followed by two 20minute
info sessions in each classroom. The two sessions are designed to accommodate
parents with more than one child. I look forward to seeing the parents.
Please do not bring children to this meeting
