Money Facts

We are learning about money. There are so many things you can do with money. We are sorting and counting, and having fun while we do it. We learned a new song that we would like to share.

I like money to buy things at the store. Money, Money, Money, I always want more. A penny's worth 1 cent, a nickel's worth 5, A dime is worth 10 cents, A quarter 25. Lincoln's on one cent, Jefferson's on five, Roosevelt's on ten cents, Washington's on twenty-five.

Ms. Gardner told us about this website that has other songs and money facts to help us learn:

Shanes Rib Shack

Our last walking trip in April was awesome. We walked to Shane's Rib Shack, for a little snack. The weather was great and we all had so much fun sitting and talking with each other. Here are some pictures:

Field Day!

Just look at our pictures and you will see how much we enjoyed our field day activities. As always the best part was the snow cones at the end of a long day!

Walking Fun!

Child_walking_2      We enjoyed another walking CBI. This learning adventure was to our local Min-it Saver on Due West road. The weather was about the same as our walking trip to Kemp Library - very cold and windy! We bundled up and set off for some great exercise. When we arrived at the Min-it Saver, we gathered around a large table to look over the menu. After carefully choosing our items, using all of the skills we have learned,  we each ordered individually. This is such a important part of our CBI trips and I must say everyone did an excellent job. It is always nice to see the children making their own choices and see their reactions when they receive what they have ordered. Sometimes we think we know what they will order and they surprise us when they order something different. Good food and conversation was plenty as we took this time to work on our table manners and our social skills. We have so much fun on our trips that sometimes we forget what a great learning experience they are! After our snack was over, we moved on to working with money - figuring out how much we owe, counting out our money, and making eye contact with the cashier and saying "thank you." With all our small tasks out of the way, our trip back to school was our next challenge. The weather had changed some while we were inside and we knew we would be facing the wind on our journey back. A few cold faces and a little mist of rain later, we were back in the warm halls of Due West Elementary. We all believe each CBI is more fun than the one before, but we also know with each trip our skills improve. What a great way to learn and have fun! Child_eating_2

Cooking

Img_0032As the end of the school year gets closer, Img_0031it seems that our Tuesday cooking days get sweeter... today we made snickerdoodles! This is a great sweet treat. You mix Img_0038chocolate and butterscotch chips together along with chow mein noodles and peanut butter. As we waited on the chips to melt, we all tried to Img_0040decide which type of chip we liked best. Butterscotch or chocolate? It took a lot of chips for everyone to make up their minds. Everyone was surprised when we decided that butterscotch was the best. We enjoy our cooking days so much! We all love sitting together, helping each other gather ingredients and utensils, reading the recipes, measuring and mixing all the ingredients together, and baking in the microwave or the toaster oven. Even when there is no cooking involved, the final product is always a surprise! Enjoy some pictures of Mrs. Bayerl's class and our friends from Miss Kaplan's class preparing and waiting patiently for our snickerdoodles to get firm enough for us to eat.

We finally made our yearly trip to the animal shelter! It is such a great place to go and visit. We learned so many things about animals - how to approach them and handle them, what types of dogs are the easiest to have and which ones require the most time, and what types of food different kinds of cats and dogs eat. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy....

After our trip to the animal shelter we stopped at Wendy's for an afternoon snack.....
