After the Fall break, fourth and fifth grade students will begin working on projects for technology. The first project will require the use of external drives (flash drives, jump drives, etc.) for moving files from one computer to another. This is a wonderful experience for students to cooperatively work on a finished product. There is a time limitation for this project, so students will also be working on their assignment outside of the technology class. If any students do not have access to a computer at home, have your children talk to me and arrangements can be made for them to work on it here at school.
Their external drives should be between 1Gig and 8 Gig. I have listed some considerations to remember if you are purchasing one of these for the first time.
- Is there an attached cover protecting the USB end of the drive?
- How will the students carry the drive to and from class and school? Is there a place to attach it to a lanyard of some sort?
- Price should not exceed $20. There are many sales that are ongoing from Walmart to the specialty stores such as Best Buy, Office Max, etc. Have your students look at the advertisements in the paper or online.
- If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
- There is no wrong or right type. It is a storage place for documents. Some companies give free drives away at community events.
