Parents, Here is the video that I wrote about in the email. To blend a consonant, vowel, consonant word you can use the following procedure: Choose a consonant from the alphabet. Choose a vowel from the alphabet. Choose another consonant from the alphabet. "Tap" the letter sounds with your first three fingers and thumb. Tap your index finger to your thumb as you say the first letter sound. Tap your middle finger to your thumb as you say the second letter sound. Tap your ring finger to your thumb as you say the third sound. For example if the word is cat, you would say the /c/ as you tap your first finger to your thumb. You would say the /a/ as you tap your middle finger to your thumb and you would say the /t/ as you tap your ring finger to your thumb. After you’ve practiced the sounds quite a few times say "now lets blend it together" and make a fist as you pull your arm across your body and say the whole word. If you are reading with your child and come across a consonant, vowel, consonant word encourage them to blend the word together. They can begin with saying the sound that each letter makes and then proceed to "tap" the word. Download blending_words.wmv
