Our First Pioneer Pride Celebration -- PAJAMA DAY!

Pajama Day!

Our class has earned the privilege to have our first Pioneer Pride celebration! They voted and decided they wanted to have a "Wear Pajamas To School" day. So, this Tuesday (September 3, 2019) we will celebrate our success by having Pajama Day. Students can wear their pajamas (appropriate for school) to school and be comfy all day! Please do not send other "bedtime" favorites (i.e. stuffed animal, blanket, pillow, etc.) Also, we do not have PE this day so no need to send sneakers if they are not wearing them with their pajamas.

CogAT & Iowa Testing for 1st, 3rd, & 5th grades begins Wednesday, September 4th. CogAT for 1st & 3rd is September 4-6. Iowa for 3rd & 5th is September 9-12. Please do not schedule any appointments for these mornings. Parent letters about this testing came home in Thursday folders last week.

Progress Reports come home in CCSD on Friday, September 6th.

PTA Family Picnic is Friday, September 13th from 6:00-8:00 pm. PTA members and their families are invited to join us for a picnic in the park and FREE shaved ice. You can bring your own picnic or pre-order Chick-Fil-A (drinks not included). This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other DWES students and families. You can still join PTA! See links:

Needing a little extra all-around academic/skill practice for your student?

MobyMax is a great online resource for all areas of academics. We use this resource in class for mathematics practice and skill building, as well as for fact fluency practice. The site offers so much more, too! To access this resource, go to www.mobymax.com and sign in with your student's log in (username is their 7-digit student number; password is cobb) after cicking "Sign in as a parent." (You may get a request to enter your school name or code. If so, click on "School Name," type "Due West," then click find. A window will pop open where you will click on Due West.) Your child will click on "Sign in as a student" to access their accounts. If you have any questions, let me know. I hope you'll enjoy all this resource has to offer!

Splash Math -- a fun way to refine and build math skills

Many of you are already familiar with the online resource called Splash Math. We have used it here at Due West for a few years now and has proven to help students refine and build math skills. It is also a great tool that our teachers to use in their classrooms to assign specific lessons to their students on an as-needed basis. To use Splash Math from home, log in at www.splashmasth.com and click "Parents, Sign Up for Free," enter your information and your child's information, then get started! After you setup your profile, all other log ins will be through the "Sign In" icon at the top right of the page. If you have any questions, let me know. But, please explore the site because it offers a lot of information and allows you to monitor your child's progress. 

Give your child the power to s-p-e-l-l!

This year, our class will utilize a great online resource called "Power Spelling." Students will take their pre- and post-tests through this program and will have access during the week to practice their spelling list. Go to www.powerspelling.com and give it a try. And don't worry! I will print their results of pre-tests so they can focus on more tedious words (the ones they missed) throughout the week. I will also print the post-tests to send home in Thursday folders. The login for your child is his/her 7-digit number. The password is cobb. Click on the assignment with the word "game" in the description.

5th Grade Parent Meeting & Open House will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 29th in the Library Learning Commons. This evening is for parents only.

Artsonia Mrs. Waters will be using Artsonia in the art room AGAIN this year! As a reminder, Artsonia acts very much like a safe, online digital portfolio of student art work where students can view and receive feedback from both teachers and family members. As an added bonus, family members are able to purchase keepsake items with their own child’s artwork on it. So fun! ***This is a fundraising effort by Due West’s Art Program to raise funds for supplies we use in the classroom to create beautiful art. Recorder Reminder

Calling all Recorders!

Mr. Duff, our awesome music teacher here at Due West, has asked that we send out a reminder about bringing and leaving recorders at school. They are an important tool in his overall instruction for the year. If your child does not have one, go to Mr. Duff's site mrduff.com to download an order form. The sooner each child has their recorder at school the sooner beautiful music can be created! For your convenience, I have also attached the form to this post.Thank you!
