First Grade Supply List

• 1 100 page Mead Primary Journal (Creative Story Tablet) for Grades K – 2 *These journals have a place for a picture on top and handwriting lines on the bottom
• 2 1 subject spiral notebooks, blue and green (wide-rule)
• 3 two-pocket plastic folders WITH PRONGS (Mead- Five Star) blue, red, and green
• 2 boxes of tissue
• 2 packs of black Ticonderoga pencils (12 count)
• 2 boxes of Crayola crayons (24 Count)
• 1 pack of low-odor Expo wide dry erase markers (not fine point)
• 1 roll of paper towels
• 1 bottle of hand sanitizer
• 1 pack of 12 Elmer’s glue sticks
• 1 pair of headphones, over the ear (no Earbuds)
• 1 Bottle of Elmer’s Glue
• Boys only: 1 container of baby wipes
• Boys only: 1 pack of Crayola colored markers (10 count)
• Boys only: 1 box of slide closure Ziploc gallon bags (32 count)

Career Day Fun!

First grade enjoyed our Career Day speakers!  We were visited by the Cobb County Department of Transportation and the Cobb County Police.

What is Relay for Life?

Relay for Life is the fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries. Volunteers give of their time and effort because they believe it's time to take action against cancer.

Relay for Life events to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.  --www.relayforlife.org

FYI Parents

If you look to the right of the blog there is a new section called 'Check It Out.' First grade teachers will be posting videos, games, and other cool things for you to use to help your first grader! Two math strategies were just added with videos to go with them. Check them out for yourself!

Doubles Rap!

Check out the doubles rap! This is a cool song that will help your child learn their doubles facts.

 

 

Second Quarter Curriculum

Standards coming up this quarter:

English/Language Arts - We will continue with literary and informational text features.  Our writing focus will be on the informative/explanatory genre.

Math - The focus will continue building number sense.  We will work on adding and subtracting inside 20, as well as word problems.  We will add three numbers, and determine unknown numbers in all positions in equations.

Social Studies - Our focus will be on the contributions of Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea.

Science - We will  introduce the concepts of magnets and sound. 

 

Character Parade

Tomorrow is the First Grade Character Parade. Please send in your child's completed story map, book, and them dressed for the parade. It will begin at 8:15. If you would like to come watch, please line the front hallway. We look forward to seeing everyone's favorite book characters!
