We are working hard in 2nd grade! Here are some of the things we will be working on during the 3rd nine weeks:
Reading....
Fables and Folktales--Students will be reading and retelling fables and folktales from diverse cultures and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
Cinderella stories-We will compare and contrast several versions of the same story by different authors or from different cultures.
Language Arts... We will continue to practice using correct capitalization for proper nouns. We are also learning about using commas in greetings and closings of letters and expanding sentences with adjectives and adverbs.
Writing....Opinion Writing--Introduce the topic (state your opinion), supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words(because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Math...By the end of the nine weeks, students will be expected to consistently and independently demonstrate the following: Compare 3-digit numbers using <, >, = symbols, add and subtract 3-digit numbers using concrete models or drawings, solve one-and two-step word problems within 100, and count money using dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies
Science...Compare and contrast seasonal changes, describe the physical attributes of stars, and compare/contrast the sun with other stars.
